Meanwhile, Captain-Commander Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto discovers that Sōsuke Aizen, the former Captain of the 5th Division, is responsible for the Arrancar invasion and the kidnapping of Orihime. Yamamoto confronts Aizen in the Senzaikyū, but is defeated and left for dead.
Ichigo arrives in the Senzaikyū just in time to witness Yamamoto's defeat. Enraged, Ichigo challenges Aizen to a fight, but is quickly overwhelmed by Aizen's immense power. Just when all hope seems lost, Kisuke Urahara, Yoruichi Shihōin, and Isshin Kurosaki arrive to aid Ichigo.
